Adding Songs

There are number of ways to add music to DJ Mixer II:

  • Import music files from your device library.
  • Import music files from your Mac or PC using iTunes.
  • Add Cloud music

Adding music from your device library

  • To use this feature you must unlock the full Mixer version of DJ Mixer II from the main menu screen or own DJ Mixer II
  • You can import M4A (AAC), MP3, AIF or WAV audio files.
  • Importing music from your iPod library requires iOS 4.0 or later.

If you have purchased protected audio files from iTunes you can convert them to AAC files in iTunes using the Apple’s iTunes Plus feature.

  1. Tap the ‘Add Your Music’ button in the Library screen.
  2. Tap the Add songs from ‘Your Music Library’ button.
  3. Select a song to import from your library.
  4. When importing is done, repeat to add more tracks.

Adding songs from your Mac or PC with iTunes

  • To use this feature you must unlock the full Mixer version of DJ Mixer II from the main menu screen.
  • You can import M4A (AAC), MP3, AIF or WAV audio files.
  • Importing music from your iPod library requires iOS 4.0 or later.

On your Mac or PC

  1. Connect your device to your PC or Mac using the USB cable. Open iTunes on your desktop.
  2. Click on your device name in the iTunes library (left side of the window) and click the Apps tab in the top center of the window.
  3. Scroll down below the Apps list to the File Sharing section.
  4. Select DJ Mixer II in the File Sharing List.
  5. Drag and drop music files from Finder to the DJ Mixer II Documents list or click the ‘Add’ button to select audio files.

On your iPhone/iPod Touch

  1. Tap the ‘Music Library’ button in the main menu.
  2. Tap the ‘Add Your Music’ button.
  3. Tap the ‘Shared via iTunes’ button.
  4. Tap the ‘Add shared files’ button.

Cloud Music

Using the Cloud Music feature, which can be accessed from the DJ Mixer II homescreen, you can import songs from DJ Cloud, Bander, and SoundCloud. For more information, please go to our Cloud Music page.

Playlist Functions

All playable songs are automatically added to the All Songs playlist. You can just mix using this playlist, add songs to the built-in My Playlist or create new playlists for different occasions. All playlist changes are automatically saved.

Creating playlists

  1. Tap ‘Music Library’ from the main menu screen.
  2. Tap ‘New Playlist’ on the bottom left of the music library screen.
  3. Name your playlist and tap ‘Done’.
  4. Tap the All Songs playlist.
  5. Tap the song you wish to add to you new Playlist and tap ‘Add to a playlist…’
  6. Tap the playlist you wish to add the song to from the list.
  7. Repeat steps 5-6 to add more songs.

Managing playlists

Playlists are fully sortable by Title, Artist, Top Requested first (for WiFi Party), Shortest Songs first, Longest Songs first, Slowest Songs first (by BPM), Fastest Songs first (by BPM), Most Played first, Least Played first, Recently Played First, Rarely Played first and Shuffle.
TIP: Sort by Recently Played First to see which tracks you have already played in your mix session.

Deleting and removing tracks

  1. Open the DJ Mixer II app.
  2. From the home screen/ main menu tap the playlists button.
  3. Tap the desired playlist you wish to edit, or All Songs.
  4. Tap ‘Edit’ in the top right corner.
  5. You will notice red ‘delete’ circles appear on the left of each song. Tap this to delete a desired track.

Mixing functions

DJ Mixer II is built for mixing. With input from professionals we have incorporated all the main features DJs seek on real DJ hardware and all the functionality of other major DJ software interfaces.

Basic mixing functions

  1. Tap ‘Playlists’ in the bottom of the screen and tap a playlist.
  2. Tap a song in the playlist and tap ‘Load to mixer channel 1′.
  3. Tap another song in the playlist and tap ‘Load to mixer channel 2′.
  4. Tap the ‘Mixer’ button in the bottom of the screen to access the Music Player.
  5. Tap the playback buttons to play, pause and skip tracks.
  6. Use the cross-fader to mix between the songs playing in Channel 1 and in Channel 2.

Interactive mixing functions

Use the DJ Mixer II screen to take full interactive control of your music.

  1. Tap ‘Mixer’ from the main menu screen.
  2. Orient iPhone/iPod Touch horizontally to Landscape mode or tap the Pro button at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Use the extensive DJing features accessible by tapping the different buttons on the screen and by touching and dragging the various controls such as the tempo sliders, cross-fader, FX, and EQ distortion.

Auto mixing

You can set DJ Mixer II to play a seamless mix while you dance or chill. DJ Mixer II will play an automatic smooth mix of your music. Upcoming tracks in your playlist are faded in as outgoing tracks are faded out. Auto mix beat matches your tracks for you. Auto mix will mix your songs according to their order in your playlist.

  1. Create a playlist (see Creating Playlists).
  2. Check the Automix check box on top left of screen (if it is unchecked).
  3. Tap the ‘Play’ button in the top deck.

Sync function

The Sync function can be used to match the speed, or BPMs, of two different tracks. Here is how to find the Sync button and turn it on to beatmatch two tracks:

  1. Open the DJ Mixer II app.
  2. Go to the Mixer.
  3. Import a song to each deck.
  4. Press the Time Signature menu (the button the looks like a clock).
  5. Press the sync button on the track you wish to match BPMs with.

Here is how to find the sync function and turn it off:

  1. Open the DJ Mixer II App.
  2. Go to the Mixer.
  3. Import a song to each deck.
  4. Press the Time Signature button on the bottom of each deck (the button that looks like a clock).
  5. Press the Reset button that appears next to the Sync button to unmatch the BPMs.
  6. The tracks should now be the same BPM, and should play at the same rate.

Recording Mixes

With DJ Mixer II you can record your mixes to play back later, upload to popular file and music sharing sites or edit in DJ Mixer II.

How to record

To record a mix, simply go to the Mixer view of DJ Mixer II on your iPhone and press the small red button in the portrait view. Once you see the timer start, you are recording. To stop recording, simply tap the record button again and press ‘Yes’ when the confirmation prompt appears.

Retrieving recorded mixes

Import recorded mixes back into the mixer.
Follow the next few steps in order to import your recorded mixes back into the DJ Mixer II:

  1. Go to DJ Mixer II home screen.
  2. Tap Music Library.
  3. Tap ‘Add Your Music’.
  4. Tap ‘Your Desktop’.
  5. Add Shared Files.
  6. Go back to the home screen.
  7. Tap the Library button on the bottom-left side of the page.
  8. Scroll down and tap the desired mix to load it onto your mixer.

Exporting recorded mixes to iTunes

In order to retrieve audio files from DJ Mixer II you will have to use the iTunes File Sharing feature.
Follow the next few steps in order to locate the files and copy them:

  1. Connect your mobile device to your PC or Mac computer and open iTunes.
  2. In iTunes, click the device icon on the left.
  3. Click Apps in the top menu.
  4. Scroll down to reveal File Sharing and click on the DJ Mixer II Pro app icon.
  5. Click your desired mix recording from the list and click Save To… on bottom right side of the files list.

Deleting recorded mixes

  1. Connect your device to your computer.
  2. Launch iTunes.
  3. Select your iOS device from the devices section of iTunes.
  4. Click the App’s tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  5. Under File Sharing section, you’ll find a list of Apps.
  6. Select DJ Mixer II.
  7. Select the recorded mix.
  8. Click Delete on your computer keyboard.

Uploading recorded mixes to other apps

DJ Mixer II now supports the export of recorded mixes to other applications that can play or share WAVE files. Some notable apps that support DJ Mixer II WAVE files are Dropbox and VLC player.

SoundCloud

  1. Open DJ Mixer II.
  2. Create a recording.
  3. End the recording at desired point by tapping the record button again.
  4. Tap ‘Upload to SoundCloud.
  5. Sign in to SoundCloud and choose your desired upload parameters.
  6. Tap ‘Upload & Share’ at bottom of pop- up window.

Dropbox

How to upload recorded mixes to Dropbox:

  1. Download and install the Dropbox app.
  2. Sign up for an account or sign in to your account.
  3. Open DJ Mixer II.
  4. Go to the Mixer.
  5. Load two tracks and record a mix (the record button is in the bottom right).
  6. When you are done recording, tap the record button again and press ‘Yes’ when prompted.
  7. Select the Open in… option.
  8. Select Open in Dropbox.

NOTE: Please allow up to 1 minute for iOS to open the Dropbox app.

  1. You will be taken to Dropbox.
  2. Name the file and choose a desired destination.

Other apps

How to upload recorded mixes to other apps that support WAVE files:

  1. Open DJ Mixer II.
  2. Go to the Mixer.
  3. Load two tracks and record a mix (the record button is in the bottom right).
  4. When you are done recording, tap the record button again and press ‘Yes’ when prompted.
  5. Select the Open in… option.
  6. Select the desired app to open your file in.

NOTE: Please allow up to 1 minute for iOS to open the app.

  1. You will be taken to the selected app.

DJ with Headphones

DJ with headphones on your mobile device, just like the pros! Dual stereo outputs – main out and headphone monitoring. Simply connect the digital output of your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch to an HDMI digital screen or sound system, or to a USB audio interface, and plug your headphones into the headphones jack. You can use any standard wired headphones to DJ. Set it up once and get busy mixing!

Basics and devices

  • Requires iPhone 4 or newer, iPod Touch 4th generation or newer, or on iPad 2 or newer, running iOS 6.0.
  • USB audio interface is only supported on iPad 2 or newer.
  • HDMI is supported on iPad 2 or newer, iPhone 4 or newer, or iPod Touch 4th generation or newer.
  • Included in the paid DJ Mixer II app.
  • Available as part of the Full Mixer Upgrade in-app-purchase ($19.99) on DJ Mixer II Pro, Carl Cox Mixer, VIBE Music Mixer, and DJ Spooky apps.
  • Works with any wired headphones connected to your mobile device headphones jack.

Split output configuration

DJ Mixer II 4.2 or later supports DJing with a DJ audio cable. Using this cable, you can DJ with headphones without an additional mobile device. You simply connect the cable to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and connect your headphones and the main sound system to this cable. Once connected, you just turn on Split audio mode in the App settings and will receive cue audio from the mixer to your headphones.

Streaming functions

With DJ Mixer II, you can also stream your mixes live to Bluetooth and WiFi enabled devices.

Streaming with AirPlay through WiFi

  1. Go to your Device Settings.
  2. Enable WiFi and select the appropriate network.
  3. To make sure the network is connected and AirPlay is enabled, open your Device’s Music Library and check for the AirPlay symbol on the top right.
  4. Open the DJ Mixer II app and close all other apps.
  5. From the DJ Mixer II Main Menu, go to the full view DJ Mixer II.
  6. Tap the settings button.
  7. Turn DJ with Headphones off.
  8. The Airplay button should appear at the top of settings, select the desired network.

Streaming with Bluetooth

  1. Go to your Device Settings.
  2. Disable WiFi and Enable Bluetooth.
  3. Connect your your desired device.
  4. Open the DJ Mixer II app and close all other apps.

WiFi Party

Starting a WiFi Party

  1. Get your mobile device on an available Wireless network and remember the network name.
  2. Tap Start a Wifi Party in DJ Mixer II main menu.
  3. Tap Start Accepting Songs.
  4. Go to your Music Library and add songs to the Wifi Party Playlist . Friends who join the party will be able to see this playlist directly on their mobile devices.

Joining a WiFi Party

  1. Tell your friends to install the free DJ Mixer II Pro and to get on the same Wifi network you are on.
  2. Tell your friends to tap Join a Wifi Party in DJ Mixer II on their mobile device.

Additional features

  • Once your friends join they can see your Wifi Party Playlist on their mobile devices and like or dislike songs in your Wifi playlist.
  • Your friends can add any song from their mobile device music library to the party or add their top 5 rated songs or their top 5 most-played songs with one tap.
  • Songs added by your friends will appear in your Wifi Party Playlist and you can mix them with the App by loading them to one of the two DJ Mixer II decks.
  • Your friends added songs will be removed from your copy of DJ Mixer II once the party is over at the break of dawn. Remember, your friends just temporarily lent you their song for a limited time to mix up in the party.

Sound Effects and Samples

Play vinyl record rewinds, spin-backs, drum rolls, sirens, horns and spoken word sounds over your tracks to spice up your mix.

iPhone and iPod Touch Music Player

  1. Tap the ‘Effects’ button at the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Scroll through sound effects list.
  3. Touch an effect’s ‘Play’ button to play it over the music playing in the Music Player.
  4. Use the built-in mix with sound effects to perform beautiful mixes between your tracks by pressing play from Channel 1 to 2, or touch text to flip to Channel 2 to 1.

iPhone and iPod Touch DJ Mixer II

  1. Tap the’ Speaker’ button on left-side of screen.
  2. Scroll through sound effects list.
  3. Touch ‘Play’ buttons to play sound effect.
  4. Use the built-in mix with sound effects to perform beautiful mixes between your tracks by pressing play from Channel 1 to 2, or touch text to flip to Channel 2 to 1.

Restoring Paid Features

If you have already purchased the DJ Mixer II Full Mixer Upgrade and are being prompted to purchase it again, all you need to do is restore paid features. Here is how to do that:

  1. Go to Settings from the Main Menu (Home icon) and tap “Restore Paid Features”.
  2. Enter iTunes account number and all purchased features will be restored to DJ Mixer II on your device. Please make sure you are using the same iTunes account you used when you made your purchases.
