We are often asked these days what sets DJ Player apart from other available iPhone DJ mixers available in the App Store. Here are our top 5 features that we feel are important to properly mix. You won’t find anywhere else on the App Store today:
- Proper auto BPM detection. Not just an OK BPM detection. State of the arts BPM detection performed on the server and is adjustable on the iPhone. BPM helps you quickly figure out what song to play next based on the BPM of the currently playing swong and it helps DJ Mixer beat match for you. BPM is the basics of any good DJ mixer. Auto BPM detection a feature typically found in physical DJ mixers costing $1000 or more.
- Tracks Loudness Display. This allows you to spot good places to mix inside a track. Without this high-res display, in many cases you have no idea where you should mix a new track in. This feature typically exists only in the digital DJ CD players costing hundreds dollars or more that are coming out to the market this year.
- Jump to any time in a track with one touch. First you need to see your music, second you need to be able to quickly jump to any time in your track before mixing it in. This is also key when creating a mashup or an extended mix.
- A real-time time-stretching audio engine. Time-stretching means adjusting the tempo or the playback speed of a track as it plays without affecting the pitch of the audio of the track. Other DJ Apps just adjust the pitch in order to adjust the playback speed, causing the infamous chipmunk audio artifact. DJ Mixer has a built-in time stretching audio engine. You can also control the pitch independently of the plyaback speed.
- Auto mixing. Sometime you don’t feel like actively mixing with your iPhone and you want your iPhone to mix for you. DJ Mixer is the only iPhone DJ App that has this feature while other Apps just claim it will be available in the future. Auto mixing tries to beat-match 2 tracks in your playlist with similar tempo and when the difference is too great, mixing is performed using vinyl sounding mix effects.
